One of my fav Australians – Marc Newson

Orgone chair

Embryo Chair
We all know my love for Arne Jacobsen – This Embryo chair (to me) is influenced by Jacobsen’s Model 3107 Chair and Swan chair.

Thanks to Interior Design Magazine I found Gallix Design – another innovative furniture design company that will be showcasing at the Fuori Salone at Milan Furniture Fair 2009. I like the simplicity of this table collection… what do you think?
Visit Gallix at the Milan Furniture Fair – Via San Giovanni sul Muro, 18 (MM1 Cairoli MM1/MM2 Cadorna)

I was drawn to the Stingray Stool (by Jolyon Yates ) because of the organic and playful shape… I am pleased to find out that it is made almost entirely in renewable birch and all the adhesives used are selected to have a low environmental impact.

Tickets are bought, accommodations arranged and anticipation at it’s highest! I am headed to Milan early next week to join the annual festivities for the Salone Internazionale del Mobili (Milan International Furniture Fair)! I have attended the last two years but never has it been so exciting! Every year it gets bigger and better… this year is no exception! I am so pumped to go to Karim Rashid’s Party too (thanks David!)
As I wrote last week, La Murrina will be debuting my project “Coutures” at EUROLUCE (Pad 14, stand E29-F30 Fiera Rho, MM1 Fiera Rho)
Another great project that you shouldn’t dare miss is Mr. Hyde – designed by Isaac Pinero, Pablo Crespo Pita, and Martin Franzen!

When shopping for clothes my weakness is always shoes… but when shopping for furniture, it is almost always chairs! After all it was the fantastic chair designer Arne Jacobsen who was my inspiration to pursue furniture design in the first place. 🙂 You can expect me to write often about chairs I love… and today I want to share with you Meridiani.
Meridiani are producers of high quality designer furniture with showrooms in Milan, Paris, and Singapore (but they distribute worldwide). Visit the Meridiani stand at the Milan International Furniture fair – FIERA MILANO HALL 5 / STAND C 06

David had luminous chandelier ‘couturier’ Eva Menz around for a drink last night. Eva is an established star in the glittering world of bespoke (custom for my American readers) lighting, creating often innovative and breathtaking pieces in a range of unusual materials such as origami, pearl and even ice!!! Pieces range from £5,000 to £100,000. Eva has an outstanding portfolio that you must check out but here I picked my favorites to share.

INTERIOR DESIGN SECRETS
People are always asking me where I source things from…. like every interior designer, I have my ‘little black book’ stuffed with contacts I have built up over the years, but there are always going to be times when even I can’t find what I’m looking for. Where do I go to for help? The answer is the fabulous ‘House Directory’ – a one-stop guide to everything from the blooming obvious to the seriously off-beat. Aimed at everyone who is passionate about interior design (trade professionals and general public), this easy-to-use directory will help you find what you are searching for in seconds. If you haven’t already discovered it, then check it out soon!! Highly recommended…

At the risk of undermining our editorial credibility with our very first posting, I would like to recommend that you all dash off and have a look at the new alacarter website. We think it is rather marvelous (Kelli designed it, so please make sure you only post positive feedback on the Comments page!!), and if you would like to find out a little bit more about what we get up to when we are not trying to keep you updated on the cool things in life, then this is probably a pretty good place to start…
